Assisted pipe repairs
The pipe supplying your home with water is your responsibility. As part of our commitment to help reduce leaks, we want to help you keep it in good working order.
Subject to terms and conditions we may be able to assist with leak repairs at private, household properties.
Helping you to repair your leak
If you think you have a leak on your property, you’ll want to get it fixed as quickly as possible.
If your supply is metered, any leak – no matter what size, may increase the cost of your water bill. Leaks can also cause damage to the foundations of your home and affect your water pressure.
The water pipe which runs between the boundary of your property to your home is usually your responsibility. But don’t worry, we’re here to help you find the right solution to getting any leaks fixed as quickly and effectively as possible.

Please get in touch as soon as you think there’s a leak on your property. We’ll come along, identify if there is and if you’re there we’ll talk through the details with you. If you’re not there we’ll get back in touch to let you know who’s responsible for the repair.

For example, we may be able to help with:
- Finding leaks on your property
- Putting you in touch with approved plumbers or contractors, who’ll be able to provide a quote and do the repair work for you
You may choose to fix the leak yourself. If you do, it’s important to make sure that all work that’s done complies with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations.
If you do decide to fix it yourself please contact us with the details of the contractor you’re using and the repair date.
Why it is better to replace the whole supply pipe
Supply pipes older than 30 years can be prone to developing further leaks. If this is the case it may be cheaper and easier to replace the whole pipe, rather than fix the leak.
As part of our assisted leak repair service, the contractor we put you in touch with will be happy to talk through your options and associated costs with you. If we find there’s a leak, in some cases we may be able to contribute up to £300 towards the cost and we can speak with you about that in more detail.
Once we’ve agreed on a plan of action
Once we’ve agreed on what to do we’ll work with you to ensure the job is done as quickly as possible. As soon as it’s complete we may do an inspection to make sure everything complies with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and your water supply is safe to drink.
What happens if I ignore the leak?
It’s in your best interest to get the leak fixed. If your property is metered a small leak – which takes up to 20 minutes to fill a 10 litre bucket* - could add £500 onto your water bill. Leaks can also damage the foundations of your property and may affect the pressure of the water supply to your home.
We’ll always try and work with you to get the leak fixed. In cases where a leak isn’t fixed within 30 days, we may have to enforce getting it done through a legal system known as a Defective Fittings Notice which is part of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations.
This notice gives you 30 days to repair the leak. If you don't repair the leak or replace the pipework within 30 days, we’ll repair the leak for you but you'll need to pay for the work.
