Cambridge Water has officially launched PEBBLE 2026, inviting schools, charities, community groups, environmental organisations and local conservation projects to apply for funding to help protect and enhance biodiversity across the region.

Now entering its latest funding round, PEBBLE (Projects that Explore Biodiversity Benefit in the Local Environment) provides grants of up to £10,000 for projects that improve, restore or create habitats within Cambridge Water's supply area, while delivering benefits for local communities. Since its launch, the fund has supported more than 125 projects and invested over £360,000 in biodiversity improvements across Cambridge Water's supply area as well as South Staffordshire and the West Midlands.

Applications for PEBBLE funding are now open, available for initiatives including, but not limited to:

·        River restoration

·        Tree planting

·        Wildflower meadow creation and habitat restoration

·        Pond creation and enhancement

·        Species-specific habitat improvements

·        Projects tackling invasive non-native species

Successful projects will help create healthier ecosystems, support wildlife recovery and contribute to more resilient local environments.

The fund is open to organisations that own the land on which the project will take place or have permission from the landowner. Projects must demonstrate a clear biodiversity benefit and align with the fund's objective of protecting, restoring or enhancing the natural environment.

Applications for funding opened on 24 July 2026 and will remain open until 1 March 2027.
