Cambridge Folk Festival bans single-use plastic bottles thanks to our support

Photos from the Folk FestivalWe were proud to be a sponsor of one of the longest running and most famous folk festivals in the world.

Cambridge Folk Festival is one of the longest running folk festivals in the world. Held each year since 1965 it attracts around fourteen thousand people, many of whom return year after year.

The festival is held in the grounds of Cherry Hinton Hall and is renowned for its unique atmosphere and its eclectic mix of music, the best traditional folk artists from the UK and Ireland rub shoulders with cutting edge contemporary acts, the finest American country, blues and roots artists, acclaimed singer songwriters, famous names and world music stars.

This year, the festival had an absolute minimal amount of single-use plastic on site and a complete ban on disposable plastic bottles. That’s where we came in!

With the help of our sponsorship, the event provided reusable stainless steel bottles for use by artists, ensuring backstage is a plastic free area. This sat alongside a blanket ban on sales of disposable water bottles at the site, where all festival goers were encouraged to bring along their own refillable ones.

We were there all weekend with our water bar, so festival-goers could bring their own bottle, pull a pint of water and stay refreshed.

The water bar was a great success  - we estimate that over 5,000 people visited the bar over the weekend.

Here are some of the comments from the festival-goers:

"Best water refill point I’ve seen at a festival."

"Tap is so much better than bottled."

"It's such a good idea."

Here's a small selection of the lovely water bottles we helped to refill at our water bar.
