Data management
and information |
At Cambridge Water we recognise the
need for businesses to manage water and energy resources to
maximise savings and we want to provide excellent service
to our commercial and industrial customers. Furthermore, we
understand that access to information about consumption and
supply status is a key part of any organisation's management
information tool kit.
We have therefore sourced a product
that will enable you to have full, 24-hour access to your
water and energy infrastructure from a standard web browser.
Buyers of energy and water can have access to downstream meters
and are able to create and maintain highly accurate consumption
data profiles. This enables them to understand their own consumption
patterns, and use this information either to negotiate more
economic contracts with their suppliers or manage their consumption
more cost effectively. Water and energy management technology
can save between 5 - 15%* of water consumption if the data
is correctly utilised by management. And this can be done
extremely cost effectively.

Meter data
collection
Our internet-based remote meter reading
system consists of a series of iStaQs (meter communication
and logger modules), enabling a hardware platform and suite
of server software. The iStaQ hardware is fully modular and
centres on a core processor with internet capabilities. Meters
with pulse output can be plugged into any communications networks
using the iStaQ.

Data
management and information
The server software runs on central
internet servers located in the UK and manages communications
with iStaQ devices, data collection schedules, back-end databases,
and the front-end, browser-based applications. The server
can also easily export meter data to clients' own in-house
systems or import existing data for publication online.

Essentially, the service is to take
meter data and turn it into knowledge. The system therefore
provides services for data communication, server suite management,
network operation, database administration, online publishing
and turnkey development.

Benefits
The advantages of the internet-based remote meter reading
and management system are substantial. Overall the system
has the following main benefits:
- Connect meters to the Internet and access them from
web browsers anywhere for frequent data at low cost
- Large reductions in operational costs (meter reading,
network operations)
- Full two-way and on-demand communications
- Improve network operations through more frequent data
and leakage alarms
- Accessibility via the Internet, meaning low cost communications
- Meter accuracy evaluation and meter re-sizing for low
flow accuracy
- Revenue protection and anti-tamper
- Alarms can be forwarded to utility staff or customers
via email, SMS or fax
Pricing
Pricing is based on a five-year contract per meter
point for provision of hardware to collect meter data and
service for data collection and provision of data over the
internet. The price includes full five-year support and warranties
provided by Cambridge Water, but excludes the cost of installation
which will be quoted on an individual basis.
Price: £2,500
