A charity that helps young people manage the impact of death, bereavement and grief, has just been awarded a six month grant from Cambridge Water.
STARS Children’s Bereavement Support Service provides support and counselling to young people up to the age of 19 living in Cambridgeshire. This includes direct work with the young person and their family; advice, information, resources, guidance, training for carers and associated professionals; and signposting to other support agencies.
The grant for £740 will enable the charity to provide six months’ worth of clinical support for its team of volunteer counsellors.
Samantha Skehel, administration manager for STARS, said: “We are very grateful to Cambridge Water for their support. Our volunteers work with children and young people in a variety of locations, such as GP surgeries, schools and children’s centres. The grant for £740 will enable us to provide the volunteers with the clinical support required as part of the professional guidelines laid down by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists – BACP.
“This will ensure they are able to provide the highest quality support for the children and young people and maximise positive outcomes for them.”
Every quarter Cambridge Water donates money to local community groups and good causes that operate within the Cambridge Water supply area. The money can be used to fund a wide variety of initiatives, ranging from equipment for sports clubs to toys for playgroups. It can also be used to fund special projects, such as building bat boxes or establishing nature reserves.
