Cambridgeshire residents are being given an exclusive opportunity to see a world-class singer perform at the impressive King’s College Chapel in Cambridge.

The classical music concert is being hosted by Cambridge Water to raise funds for WaterAid – a cause the company has supported for more than 27 years.

Mezzo soprano Catherine Wyn-Rogers has been booked for the concert which features music by Rachmaninoff (Piono Concerto No. 3), Elgar (Sea Pictures) and Respighi (Fountains of Rome) performed by the Cambridge University Musical Society.

Cambridge Water’s managing director, Stephen Kay, said: “In Cambridge we have enjoyed the benefit of clean water for more than 150 years – yet one in eight people in the world still do not have access to clean water and almost two fifths live without sanitation.

“This concert provides a unique opportunity to hear breathtaking music at one of the most beautiful venues in the UK Cambridge – and help raise funds for a great cause at the same time.

“We are especially delighted to have secured the talents of both Catherine Wyn-Rogers and the Cambridge University Musical Society to create one of the must-see events of the year.”

The concert takes place at 8pm on Thursday, March 12, 2009.

Tickets are being offered on a first come first served basis and are priced at £20 or £5.75 without a view of the performance. All money raised will go directly to help the people of Burkina Faso – where only half the population have access to clean water and fewer still – only 12 per cent - have access to sanitation

Stephen Kay said: “WaterAid is the UK’s only major charity dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene. For every ticket we sell, we really can make a difference to the quality of someone’s life.”
