The excessive rainfall between April and June has been welcomed by Cambridge Water.

The company’s boreholes are now at, or approaching average levels for the time of year, with water levels at some major pumping stations now above average.

A spokesman for the company said: “The unprecedented rainfall in April and the above average rainfall in May and June have meant ground water levels did not peak until June which is much later than we normally expect. This puts us in a more favourable position when managing the natural summer decline in available water. While we are not out of the woods if we get a third dry winter, things are looking much more positive than they did earlier this year.

“As always we are asking our customers to keep track of their water consumption. The drought reminds us all that water is a precious resource and we would urge everyone not to waste water and to let us know of any leaks on our network.”

Leaks can be reported via the Cambridge Water website or by calling 01223 706050.
