Aboveground works

Once a dwelling’s plumbing installation has been completed please inform us by completing the Above Ground Regulations Inspection Request form (copy as required for each property).

Within five working days of receiving your form we will carry out inspections to ensure that all pipe work and fittings comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and Section 47 of the Water Industry Act 1991.

These are national requirements for the design, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems, water fittings and water using appliances.

Specifically you need to ensure:

1) Your internal plumbing installation has met the standards specified in the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulation 1999

2) Where a cistern is required under section 66 of the Water Industry Act 1991, the cistern and its float operated valve are in good repair

Copies of the regulations can be obtained here or by visiting our offices at 90 Fulbourn Road, Cambridge.

Where breaches of the regulations are found, Cambridge Water will require them to be remedied as soon as practicable.

It is a criminal offence to breach the regulations and offenders may face prosecution. If, at any time, breaches to the regulations pose a risk to health, the water supply to the premises may be disconnected immediately to protect the health of occupants or others fed from the same public supply.
