Water Resources Management Plan
Cambridge Water's number one priority is to ensure a consistent supply of high quality drinking water is available for its customers now and in the future.
It is a statutory requirement for water companies to produce a Water Resources Management Plan, which sets out how they propose to maintain a secure balance between available water supplies and demand for water over the next 25 years. This is influenced by factors such as demand management through metering programmes, resource developments, and growth in housing.
The preparation of the Water Resources Management Plan allows for consultation at the draft stage so that representations can be made. During the summer of 2008 Cambridge Water published its draft plan and invited the public and a wide range of stakeholders, including our regulator Ofwat, the Environment Agency and local councils, to comment on our proposals.
A full list of the comments and Cambridge Water's official response to them can be accessed in the Schedule of Representations.
Having considered the representations in detail, we updated our draft plan. A summary of the representations received and the resulting changes we made to our draft plan is detailed in the Statement of Response to Representations.
The Secretary of State reviewed our updated draft plan and our Statement of Response in the summer of 2009, and asked us to provide additional information to enable him to make a decision on the publication of our final plan. The further work we have undertaken is set out in our Supplementary Statement of Response (SSoR), published in October 2009.
The Water Resources Management Plan has been further updated to take account of these latest changes and, having been approved by Defra in December 2009, the final plan has now been published.
