  Useful information

Our plans and activities to promote the efficient and careful use of water have been produced in agreement with the Office of Water Services (OFWAT) and in liaison with the Environment Agency (EA).

Water is a precious resource and vital to life. The human body needs to take in water every day and cannot survive for long without it. But people are not the only ones in the environment who rely on good, clean water. The whole ecology of our surroundings also depends on it. If we concentrate solely on our own needs we are in danger of overlooking the effect this could have on the environment. By working together, Cambridge Water and our customers can ensure we use this precious resource wisely and sustainedly.

Did you know?

    • East Anglia's rainfall is only half the national average
    • Cambridge is the driest part of this dry region. It has less rainfall than Barcelona
    • Cambridge has a high population density and that population is increasing at a greater rate than many areas of the United Kingdom.
    • Summer rainfall is mainly lost through transpiration from plants and evaporation and so less value for recharging the water resources.
    • Winter rainfall sustains the aquifers.
