woman with glassIn December 2004 OFWAT announced new price limits for Cambridge Water customers, effective from April 2005. Household bills will increase for the first time since April 1992.

The price increases are essential to enable the company to deliver agreed outputs by the end of March 2010. They include:

  • Continuing to maintain a safe, reliable water supply to customers
  • Investing more to maintain pipes and treatment works
  • Meeting the demands of new and existing customers for a reliable
water supply with improvements to the network
  • Delivering required drinking water and environmental quality
improvements, including a project to blend water to reduce nitrate
levels in tap water, and investigations in to the effect of company
abstractions at Dernford Fen, Ninewells and Thriplow Meadows
  • Installing more than 4,000 meters, at no charge to customers who
chose to switch to a metered supply
  • Removing 41 properties from the risk of low pressure at the tap
